Escapades in South Finistère between land and sea from the Lodge Kerisper
QUIMPER, CAPITAL OF CORNWALL
One hour from the hotel in Morbihan by car and 58 minutes by train from Auray station, Quimper is a must-see for the quality of its architectural heritage, its gothic Saint-Corentin cathedral, its lively mediaeval streets with their half-timbered houses, but also its museums, the Locmaria district and its famous Henriot-Quimper earthenware factory The capital of Cornwall, located at the crossroads of the Steir and Odet rivers, is a city of art and history to discover!
SAINTE-MARINE COMBRIT, A SMALL PORT OUT OF TIME!
About fifteen kilometres south of Quimper, make a stopover in the Pays Bigouden at Sainte-Marine Combrit, a charming little village and fishing and leisure port, located on the right bank of the Odet, opposite Bénodet, on the other bank. Nestled between the sea and the estuary, between rocky coves and clumps of pine trees, Sainte-Marine Combrit will charm you.
THE PORT OF DOËLAN, A UNIQUE SITE
56 minutes from Lodge Kerisper, the port of Doëlan is a small, authentic and typical port, nestled in a narrow, deep ria. It is guarded by two lighthouses, one green and one red, which are easy to spot. You can walk along the harbour but also taste fresh fish bought directly on the spot!
From Doëlan, a path will lead you between sand and rocks to Le Pouldu. Situated in the estuary of the ria Laïta, Le Pouldu with its port will allow you to watch the tide turn against the dunes of the Morbihan.
RIEC TO TASTE “LA BÉLON”
The capital of the famous flat oyster with a nutty flavour, Riec-sur-Bélon with its port is an essential stopover for tasting “la Bélon” facing the sea, 53 minutes from the Kerisper Lodge!
The spats come from different basins (Quiberon Bay) where the oyster develops for three years. They are then matured in the Bélon ria which gives it its name. The oyster beds are visible at low tide.
CONCARNEAU, A JEWEL NOT TO BE MISSED!
A little over an hour from Lodge Kerisper, it is difficult to miss Concarneau, a key town. A fortified town, modified by Vauban, Concarneau offers a beautiful panorama from its ramparts over the port and the bay, one of the most beautiful in Brittany with its fishing port and beaches.
